ODDBALL EVENTS

Being a fan of Big Bang Theory I just had to go to the Amazing Phoenix Comic-con to soak up the atmosphere. This is a great chance to talk with artists about their techniques. The big comic-con from the show is in San Diego.

NATURE

Waterfalls and secret places to view sunsets usually lead to great adventures. My friend Kris (pictured) came with me to see a beautiful waterfall in Glacier National Park in July of 2014. Every state has unique opportunities.

LUCKY HAPPENSTANCES

A foundation I work with happened to sponsor a school sculpture during my Year of 50. The artist asked me to contribute my hand print as part of the piece. Look for these opportunities.

Tea and Cookies at

the Death Cafe

Eventually when you turn 50 you have to face the eventuality of your own death. Reflection is just part of the deal.

I was heading in from a light snowstorm to my neighborhood coffee shop when I spotted it. It was a thick cardstock poster with a white tea cup sitting on a black coffin under the words: DEATH CAFÉ. This clearly was new territory from the local symphonies and school plays normally adorning the community events board as I rushed passed for my caffeine fix. Somebody either had an odd sense of humor, or was morbidly fascinated by what western culture feared most: our limited time on this planet. I stepped closer to the poster and removed my glasses.
