Foreword from the Minister of Education and National Reconciliation

- Honourable Curtis King

The need for accurate up-to-date information to inform decision making is more pronounced now than hitherto. The large-scale disruption in the education system occasioned by the COVID-19 pandemic and the frequency of adverse weather conditions associated with climate change issues has forced policy makers and educators to re-examine the approach to teaching and learning.

Moreover, the setbacks experienced during the pandemic have compromised the attainment of the lofty goals of the 2030 sustainable development agenda. The extent to which we make progress towards SDG 4, inclusive and equitable access to quality education and lifelong learning for all by 2030, will be dependent on the strategic interventions made by both policy makers and practitioners in education. Such interventions must of necessity be informed by relevant and timely information.

This digest provides valuable information from which extrapolation can be done to help to inform decisions on the type of interventions needed to address setbacks experienced, learning losses recorded and the adjustments needed in our education system.

I therefore commend this important document to policy makers, educators and other stakeholders for their professional and general usage. Once again, I thank the Education Planner, his team and all those who contributed to the production of this valuable document.
