Ancient Astrology
The true origins of astrology lie in Mesopotamia but the practice spread greatly throughout the ancient world. Historians agree that the Greeks learned the practice from Egypt and the Romans then learned it from the Greeks.
Though not an original Roman idea, astrology was a central practice in all levels of Ancient Roman society. Common people could use birth charts to determine personal destiny while political and military leaders could use it to aid in their decisions. A popular example of this is Augustus, who used the symbol of his rising sign (Capricorn) on coins and monuments.
