mulling over. The poem I just wrote today was inspired by the Good Friday service I went to the night before and thoughts that I had while I was sitting there listening to the music and everything.
Donn: Do you have anything else you’ve been working on lately?
Prettyman: I have a manuscript of a novel I’ve written. I’m really excited about that. I’ve always wanted to write a twisted fairy tale kind of thing, a new spin on an old story.
Donn: Those are fun.
Prettyman: One of my favorite fairy tales is Beauty and the Beast. For a long time, I’ve wanted to write a story that had a ghost as a main character, so I came up with a way to combine some of my ideas—a ghost story and a Beauty and the Beast story together. It’s really been a fun project. It took me about a year and a half to write it, and, right now, I have some friends and family doing beta-reading. I’m thinking I might try to get it published.
Donn: Have you done anything towards getting it published yet?
Prettyman: Not quite yet. I’m going to start down that path probably end of the year or so, I’m hoping. There’s a lot of stuff I have to do research on to learn about that process.
