Harassment

When a guy does not meet these  standards,  society has forced on him, he will  encounter many obstacles  to  being different. This includes physical harassment, bullying, and cyber-bullying. Because these guys are not following the norms, they will not be accepted by other “manlier” guys; they will be  ostracized.

The consequences are worse for men who identify as LGBTQ+. As claimed by the National Bullying Prevention Center, 70.1% of LGBTQ+ students were verbally abused due to their sexual orientation. Also, 28.9% of LGBTQ+ students were physically bullied. Again, because of their sexual orientation. The homophobia men are taught, it is unacceptable not to be "manly" and this  belief  when internalized,  destroys their confidence and mental health.

Sadly, bullying is encouraged with toxic masculinity, because a guy needs to have a tough or rude demeanor to fit in. The bullying men receive from not being manly enough is mentally damaging towards them and may lead to suicide.

Putting an End to It

Organizations have been stepping up to help. For example,  A Call to Men,  has been promoting healthy and respectful  manhood  through training and educational resources to communities, schools, agencies, and companies. Their goal is to stop the spread of toxic masculinity and sexual assault against other men and women. They are teaching men how to respect others no matter what their sexuality or race is and value their own mental health and make it a priority.

The “manliness” that men envy  and  yearn  to have in order be accepted in society is a horrible mindset that needs to end in this new generation of young adults. The unmeasurable amount of harassment and toxicity between men is inappropriate and is pure immaturity
