The stars seem to shine brighter than before,

As empty thoughts swirl through my head.

Simple sentences,

Simple words,

Simple letters,

But,

They all seem too complicated

As I stare in awe at the moon.

Sometimes, I feel the moon gazing back at me,

Like it's watching over me,

And its radiant light shields me,

From the cold of the night.

The trees dance in the moon’s light,

With their shadows swaying with them.

They cast long strips of darkness,

Where the light cannot reach,

Brewing uncertainty and fear.

The dark spirits of the night twist and turn,

As their slender fingers creep upon an unaware soul.

Once you step out of the moonlight,

You are within their grasp.

The moon watches in sorrow,

As more and more are consumed by the night.

In fear,

In hatred,

In hopelessness,

In jealousy,

In anger,

They step away from the moon.

Sometimes I wonder what it’s like to step away,

To abandon your hopes and dreams,

And walk along the path of shadows.

But the people who walk this path,

Become a hollow shell of what they used to be.

When I remember the moon’s breath

The thoughts of darkness vanish,

And my mind is blank

As I breathe the crisp night air.
