Citizens looked at each other, they knew everyone was thinking the same thing. They were ready to follow the book’s instructions. Oblivious to the brewing rebellion, the mayor was still trying to gather people to capture Amanda. Instead, his beloved citizens grabbed him by his arms, and started to push him away from the crowd. They tied him up with rope, locking him away in a cellar.
The people cheered, thinking they had defeated the villain of their town. But soon, the unexpected happened.
Starting from the edge of town, houses and buildings began to collapse. The destruction quickly moved into the center square. People ran and ducked, trying to avoid the falling debris. They pushed into the center building, the only building left standing. They crammed into the only building left standing, the capitol. Nobody dared to move, from fear of being pushed into the destruction outside.
“Everyone, look at this!” Someone shouted from the center of the room. They were standing by the frame. “I can put my hand in here!” It was indeed a strange sight. Half of his arm was stuck in the white void of the frame, yet nothing appeared on the back side.
This sparked an idea in Amanda’s head, she pushed through the crowd, desperate to get to the mirror.
“Friends, I have a bold idea; it might risk our lives, but it seems there is no other choice unless we want to be buried under the ruins of our town forever. Why don’t we try going into the frame?”
At first, the people disagreed with this idea. Why would they risk their lives for something they weren’t even sure about? But as the thought sank in, they realized their lives were already fabricated. What more was there to lose?
As Amanda saw the confusion on the faces resolve, she felt pride surge in her heart. She had led her people in a positive direction, into their dreams.
She stepped into the frame, disappearing into the bright whiteness. The people looked at each other nervous glances, but ultimately decided to follow their unofficial leader.
Inside the frame was a world of pure white. Completely blank, like a fresh book waiting for a story to be written on it. No one had ever thought of a life beyond what they were used to, but today the future became clear. Now it was time to build their own their own, desired lives.
