But few were not. These people saw the foreign symbols demanded a rightful explanation.

The mayor had always been close to the people, transparent about every problem (although

they were rare) in their lives.

“Liar! Tell them the Truth!” The people who saw the symbols up close were surprised. Why

would their mayor lie to them like this? This led them to think, has our kind and trustworthy

mayor lied to us before as well?

“Have you thought about it before?” Amanda whispered to her friend, “No one has ever

entered the capitol building. And now our mayor is lying to us about something we all saw

with our very eyes. He must be hiding something.” Her friend looked back in disbelief; these

thoughts completely fresh to her.

“But our mayor is here to keep us safe, right? Why would he lie to us?” Her friend asked,

puzzled.

“Well, that’s what I thought too. But it happened right in front of you, and that the thing was

clearly not the sunlight, right? So something must be off.” Amanda said, “And I think the

problem lies in the Palace. Think about it, it's the only forbidden place of this whole town.

Don’t the symbols somewhat resemble the carvings on the gates? There is obviously a

connection!”

Amanda was sure that her theory can be proven, if only she could go into the Palace. Well, it

wouldn’t hurt to try...

A deep midnight black extinguished the brightness into the horizon, leaving Amanda the

perfect time to investigate. She snuck out of her cottage, praying she did not wake up her nosy

family, and followed a secret trail to the center square.

The Palace was an enormous structure, but the only entrance was through the huge front

doors. Amanda had never seen anyone open the doors before, and there were no windows to

squeeze through either. She decided that attempting to open the doors was her only choice,

although the risks were dangerously high. Climbing over the golden fence, she stepped onto

the ground of the capitol, marking the first time any person has done so.

Amanda put her hand on the large, wooden door, ready to push it open. She contemplated the

reasons for her actions, but ultimately decided to continue. It was for the people, right? Her

heart pounding with excitement, adrenaline pumped through her head, washing away all her

logic. She was ready for anything this building was hiding.

She heaved and pushed the hefty doors open. A beaming light pierced through the night,

reaching every corner of the quiet, resting town. The light carries a mysterious magic, crawling

into the people, bringing upon the knowledge that was once locked in the palace. Amanda felt

waves rushing through her body. It was as if a missing part was finally returned to her.

Once the brightness faded, Amanda had a clear view of the inside. She stood at the doors,

trying to take in everything about this building that lay before her. A large center room with

seemingly endless shelves, filled with books colorful entities of strange appearance. It was

something she would have never thought to appear before her eyes.

Many paintings hung on the walls, depicting scenes of war, and death, a concept no citizen of

North Bulburn had ever been exposed to before. This fairytale-like town didn't even have a

graveyard.
