Selene simply wasn’t able to neglect the importance of lending a helping hand to her father, despite the foreshadowing of the upcoming obstacles, and was now compensating for her excessive virtue with her own soul. When the father again dared to look at his beloved child, he did not see anything human in her - only prohibitively dark eyes, girlish lips twisted in a grin, and a dead pallor that now replaced a once-living blush on her cheeks. Her brave fight against darkness was too unfair and too fleeting for a young girl like her; what seemed to be a victory turned into the greatest defeat. She feared no evil - and had now become the evil herself.
