The tie got its name because of the french word ''Croat'' (Croatian). It's thought that king Louis XlV took up the fashion of the first ''ties'' after seeing them on croatian mercenaries during the Thirty Years' War. French designers developed the originals and started using new materials and colours. In the 19th century silk and colourful ties became fashionable. In the 60s the tie arrived to England and was called ''Four-in-hand'', it became popular among the English aristocracy.

Ties became the most popular fashion accesory because English schools started to use them on their uniforms.

Nowadays ties are very common and are used to wear with suit and in important days or occations.
