The Umbrella Academy is an amazing TV show on Netflix and a comic book written by Gerard Way, lead singer of the band My Chemical Romance. The
show and comic are about 43 children born in 1989 who each have super powers.
have superpowers. Billionaire philantropist Sir Reginald Hargreaves
later adopts 7 of the 43
children and forms the Umbrella Academy (Think X-men but cooler). The 7 children are Number 1 Luther AKA Space Boy,
who has super strength, Number 2 Diego AKA the Kraken who can throw knives really well, Number 6 Ben AKA the Horror who has a tentacle monster in his stomach and is dead, and Number 7 Vanya AKA the White Violin, who can use sound as energy.
Now as for the Latin knowledge sprinkled through the series and comics, it all begins with the uniform crest of the academy, with the Latin motto, "Ut Malum Pluvia." The most literal translation is “rain [is] like evil,”
