Jack Sanders: It started out as an experiment in July 2014. I was testing the waters and it became very successful as I improved. With the internet I can select and choose from artists all over the world. It also gives a sense of legacy to all participants.
RC: What were the Homosurrealist shows in New York like?
JS: So far, we've had two. As I stated earlier, the first was at the Helen Mills Theatre, May 24, 2018.
The second was at the Gene Frankel Theater. I brought some hard copies of the magazine to distribute at that show. The place was packed. I was really struck by the crowd.
Bruce la Bruce introduced me as "Mr. Homosurrealism" which I liked. Scooter LaForge did a fabulous poster for the event which I still have. My friend Carlos DeMedeiros shared a piece of his automatic writing on a paper bag which I still have. Bruce showed his film Ulrike's Brain and I showed Brian Butler's film Sympathy for the Devil. There was so much to document. I could write a book about it.
