One of the joys of Brora is that at 125 years old little has changed since the original design … you won ’ t find any distance markers on fairways . This James Braid-designed course is all the better for it . Brora is one of his great legacies and greatest gifts to lovers of links golf . Dunes roll and sway in hypnotic rhythm like a swelling sea , with holes flowing up , down and in between . The course is a traditional out and back affair and , as at nearby Royal Dornoch , the greens are spectacular . A small burn slides across the middle to the bay , creating some intriguing challenges , and the resident sheep and greens surrounded by electric fencing merely add to the uniqueness of this very special course . Always hit for what you can see and be sure to play the course twice .
