Maria Pilar Gonzalez Navarro, known as Senora Gonzalez to her students at Conotton Valley Union Local Schools, is currently in her 5th year as a Visiting Teacher from Spain. Through the Ohio Department of Education's Spanish Visiting Teacher program, East Central Ohio ESC has hosted Pilar since her arrival. She provides high quality, Spanish language instruction, as a native speaker, to students at the Conotton Valley school district.
As a visiting teacher from Spain, Pilar and her husband have brought a vast wealth of cultural and language knowledge to area students, staff and families, while adapting at the same time to our culture here in rural Ohio. In addition to providing high shool Spanish language instruction, last year Pilar added weekly elementary Spanish lessons to each elementary classroom at Conotton Valley, offering a Spanish elective to all students, grades K-5. Her instruction also includes the sharing of her rich cultural heritage with our students and families, both at school, and at various community events, such as the local library.
