1st Gen Gains Representation at UNE COM
The 1980 Higher Education Act defines a first-generation college student as either an individual both of whose parents/guardians did not complete a baccalaureate degree OR in the case of any individual who regularly resided with and received support from only one parent/guardian, an individual whose only such parent did not complete a baccalaureate degree.
The group aims to raise awareness about the unique needs of first-generation students by advocating for continued research and stronger mentorship programs.
UNE COM currently has an estimated 172 students who qualify as 1st Gen.
