Pop culture within Technology

By:Donovan guh

Popular culture is made up of the most popular practices, objects and beliefs in society. Pop culture influences everything that we do, and over the last couple of decades, music and technology have been significantly influenced by popular culture. Without a doubt, the advancement of technology, in particular, has helped shape pop culture today, and likewise, pop culture has often directed where our advancements in technology go.

Remember when you would listen to music on a CD through a Walkman player? Music in pop culture is constantly evolving. Every year, trends change and new ones develop, new music trends are created and older pop culture icons come back into the focus. Now more than ever, pop culture adaptations, such as the use of Spotify and TikTok, has influenced the music industry greatly.

As Spotify is currently the leading streaming service for music, its popularity has ultimately shaped the way that music is created and shared. With over 165 million premium subscribers, Spotify has greatly influenced the music industry. Artists create their music and share it directly onto Spotify, inadvertently halting the use of CDs and has allowed every user of Spotify to listen to almost all of the albums in the world from one platform.

Spotify isn’t the only leading giant that’s influenced the music industry in recent years. TikTok reached 1 billion monthly users in 2021 and has quickly shaped the way music is made and streamed. Because so many people use the platform each month, it is arguably the best place to promote new music. Music marketing has evolved as a result of TikTok, with artists sponsoring influencers to use their music in their videos.
