“Education 2030 Framework for Action, which proposed that governments should be allocating “At least 4 to 6 per cent of GDP to education, and/or at least 15 to 20 per cent of public expenditure to education.” 1 The region is striving to meet both conditions set in this framework. Some territories have met the benchmark and some are still working towards it. Figure 6.1 shows percentage of GDP that is spent on education.
The data future reveals the OECS territories spends over 7.54 million dollars which is just 11% of the national budget in order to provide every child with quality education. 34% of the education budget is allocated to the secondary level whereas only 2% and 3% is allocated to Special Needs Education and Early Childhood Education respectively. This is shown in Figure 6.2 the allocated of the education budget at the different level.
