Regarding the CSEC pass rates in Literacy, Numeracy, and Sciences for the 2022-23 academic year, overall performance varies significantly by subject. English A has a commendable pass rate of 78.3%, while Mathematics is considerably lower at 38.2%. Gender differences are evident, with females outperforming males in English A and B, whereas the gap in Mathematics is narrower. Notably, Sciences generally show better performance than Mathematics, with Agricultural Science achieving an impressive 86.7% pass rate. This trend continues with Additional Mathematics, where higher foundational support can be a contributor to a pass rate of 72.4%. The high pass rates in Agricultural Science possibly indicate effective teaching strategies, suggesting that similar approaches could be beneficial in other subjects.

The CSEC exam results for Humanities/Social Sciences and Modern Foreign Languages also reveal a mix of successes and challenges. Caribbean History has a strong pass rate of 79.7%, with females outperforming males. In contrast, French has a lower pass rate of 52.7%, indicating difficulties, particularly for males. Geography reflects lower pass rates, suggesting the need for improved instructional methods. Conversely, Physical Education shows exceptional results, which may indicate effective teaching strategies. The performances in subjects like Spanish and Religious Education presents variability, with mixed results for males and females. Overall, while subjects like Physical Education and Caribbean History demonstrate strong performance, the challenges faced in Geography and Modern Foreign Languages highlight areas for significant improvement. The consistent success of females in language subjects suggests effective teaching practices that could be adapted to enhance outcomes in other disciplines.

Figure 5.1 below depicts the percentage students achieving at least 5 CSEC subject passes inclusive of English Language and Mathematics.
