On behalf of the team , it is my pleasure to present Destination Golf Ireland 2022 , which is our annual guide to showcasing Ireland ’ s premier courses .
Although it ’ s been a tough two years for the golf tourism industry , with new strains playing havoc with travel-related testing , travel restrictions and therefore the ‘ confidence to book ’, domestic golf is booming and the desire to dream of golf vacations has not dimmed in the slightest . The industry remains extremely positive , knowing that there is an enormous pent-up demand for local and international golf travel .
Many Irish golf courses have also used this time to upgrade their facilities and course conditions . In this edition Kevin Markham features the newly opened St . Patricks Links in Co . Donegal , and Druids Glen Resort in Co . Wicklow , which has seen a lot of investment by its new owners .
Over the years , Ireland has built a reputation for its ability to stage global golf events like the Ryder Cup , Solheim Cup , and Curtis Cup , as well as the Irish Open and the Open Championship . It has produced golfing legends , Ryder Cup heroes and Major winners .
Take a quick glance at the list of golf course designers here and you will find famous names including Nicklaus , Palmer , Norman , Faldo , Montgomerie , O ’ Meara , Langer , O ’ Connor Jnr , McGinley , mixed with the legendary designers of old . Golfers can tee it up on courses surrounded by meadows and forests , around lakes and loughs , up high on mountain tops , on the edge of terrifying cliffs , or through giant dunes along the coastline .
Ireland offers a special charm and unique experiences . After your game you will find a lively 19th hole and the world renowned Irish “ Craic ”.
