He loves fishing and also loves catching up with Old Guildfordians and reminiscing, and he had a great time reuniting with Dudley Maslen (Sc 1960-1965) in December 2014. In year order Richard ‘Dick’ Morris (Prep 1926-1926), now deceased, features in a book by Sydney author Dr Eileen Chanin called Limbang Rebellion: Seven days in December. The book has won the 2014 Royal Marine Historical Society’s Literary Award in the United Kingdom. The story is told from the viewpoint of Dorothy, Dick’s wife, and covers the rescue of the pair from the terrifying 1962 siege in Borneo. Royal Marines saved the couple after being taken hostage in the town of Limbang by rebel insurgents opposed to British rule. Dick was a government official at the time. David O’Halloran (He 1937-1940) reminisces about how he attended Henn’s House in two separate ways, firstly as a boarder 1937-1940 and secondly for surgery at the Army General Hospital, as it was then during World War II in 1942, when he was able to tell the nursing staff (mostly from New South Wales) something of the history of the School. Edmund ‘Noel’ Monks (He 1938-1941) celebrates his 90th birthday this year. Noel has spent a lifetime of just giving; to his family, friends, community and country. He still collects every year for Remembrance Day. Noel was married in the School’s Chapel to Hilary Stanley and they celebrated their 63rd wedding anniversary on 22 February 2015. He has values to be extremely proud of, and will always be ‘a Guildford Boy’. Noel attends the Old Guildfordians’ Annual Dinner every year. David Brent (Sc 1941-1945) recently tried to track down John Coles (He 1941-1945). After leaving Guildford Grammar School, both met again in 1946 while competing at the Ashburton Shield, a shooting competition in Bisley, United Kingdom (coincidentally located quite close to Guildford in the UK). John was at Cranleigh School in Surrey at the time. They enjoyed meeting again in Malaya in 1957 when David was the Officer in Charge of Police Old Guildfordian Memorabilia Carl Vine (Wb 1967-1971) was voted by Limelight magazine as Australia’s second greatest composer (after the late Peter Sculthorpe). Jamie ‘Stormie’ Mills (Wb 1979-1984) whose moody artworks have generated a cult following, plans to take one of his collections called A Fish Tale to the big screen. He has teamed up with UK filmmaker Mark Strong and launched a funding drive in the first half of 2015. Noel Monks collected for Remembrance Day. District Johor Bahru, across the Causeway from Singapore, and John was based in Singapore as a Captain in the British Army flying Austers over David’s jurisdiction, which included the rubber estate of John’s father. While searching for John recently, David sadly discovered that John passed away in Andora, on 18 March 2011, at the age of 80. David would like to pass the following message on for John, “Hilang dimata, di-hati jangan”, which means “Tho’ lost from sight, remains forever in our hearts”. Simon Barker (Fr 1983-1987), during December 2014 and January 2015, travelled with his family to the United States of America and Canada for a 4.5 week vacation. Julius Skinner (St 1984-1988) is a partner of Jackson McDonald Lawyers and is also a member of the board for the Guildford Grammar School Foundation. In April 2015 he was voted Lawyer of the Year in his area of Law as voted by his peers. Katrina, his wife, and his children Conor (St 11), Emma (Prep 4) and Thomas (Prep 3) are all very proud of him. Hugh Reynolds (He/St 1948-1953) celebrated his 80th birthday with family and friends, at Sittella Winery, in November 2014. Murray Smith (Fr 1985-1989) is now living in Melbourne with his wife Sorcha. He is working for Mining Plus as a Principal Mining Consultant. David Lovelock (Ha 1960-1961) is currently the President of the Victoria Plains Shire, and represents WA on the Cattle Council of Australia and on many other industry organisations. Michael Ottaviano (Wb 1986-1990) is Chief Executive Officer of Carnegie Wave Energy, an ASX-listed inventor, owner and developer of the patented CETO wave energy technology. Over $80m has been raised to fund the development of CETO which converts ocean swell into zero-emission renewable power and desalinated freshwater. Commercial scale in-ocean testing is being carried out at Garden Island, Western Australia. Lindsay Le Lievre (Ha/Wb 1959-1963) has forever been in Derby and he is managing the Aboriginal hostel in town. Lindsay played in a Rock ‘n’ Roll band called Chisel & True Dinkum for 20 years but has now retired from playing gigs. He has been a Justice of the Peace for 28 years. Lindsay has four children, three girls and one boy, who all work in Broome except for one. As he gets older Lindsay appreciates Joel Cooper (Wb 1986-1993) is the proud father of Oisin Heath Cooper, born 3 July 2014 weighing 3.124kg.
