SENIOR SCHOOL
Boarding – busy but brilliant!
When asked about life in boarding, one
word always comes to mind – busy! There is
always plenty to do and plenty of boys to do
it with, but that is all part of the fun!
This year got underway with a very busy start
(but I always seem to be busy in boarding!).
Our boarders were back at school earlier
than they ever have been, and it was great
to share a special Australia Day evening with
a large number of families who joined their
sons on the first night of school. In a new
initiative for this year, our first weekend in
boarding saw both the Year 7 and Year 8
boarders heading off campus for what in
essence were ‘orientation’ camps. The aim of
the camps was to:
• give the boys opportunities to get to
know each other while undertaking
some enjoyable activities
• provide an opportunity for Heads of Hall/
Boarding and Year coordinators to get to
know the students
• give the boys a forum to ask any
questions they have after reflecting on
their first week
• give Year Coordinators and Prefects the
opportunity to educate the boys on the
“3G- Proud to be a Boarder” culture.
The camps were a huge success and met the
aims outlined above. For me, it was a pleasure
to go away with the Year 8 boys and share
stories, enjoy some fun games and activities
and also work on understanding and putting
into action our ‘3G – Proud to be a Boarder’
principles of unity, respect and enjoyment.
A very special thank you must go the staff
who attended the camps for all of the work
26
they did throughout the weekend, these
include Mr Lewis Jones and Mr Connor
Toop (He 07-11), who attended the Year
7 Camp and Mr James Perrin, Mr Tom
Wilkinson (GAP student) and Miss Holly
Tisdale (Nurse), who attended the Year
8 camp. We would also like to thank our
