In year order
George Payne (SG 1948-1954) had a kidney
transplant in 1998, but unfortunately died of
cancer on 20 April 2013, partly due to antirejection medication.
John Edgecombe (St 1953-1955), who was
married in the School Chapel on 9 May 1964,
celebrated 50 years of marriage this year.
Wally Edgecombe (St/Wb 1958-1962) was
employed with the Department of Environment
and Conservation, the Department of
Conservation and Land Management, and
the Forests Department. He served with great
commitment and dedication for over 48 years
in many different locations between Manjimup
and Karratha before an extended stint with the
Revegetation Systems Unit. His hard work and
revegetation knowledge were an important
contribution to development of the mallee
industry. Wally unfortunately passed away on
22 April 2014.
Peter Trott (SG 1954-1962) is now retired in
Far North Queensland. He read with interest
Hugh ‘Tony’ Fitzpatrick’s (Prep/St/Ha 19551960) recollections in the last Forward magazine
of his days working as a journalist and those
Old Guildfordians he had the pleasure of
working with. Peter also recalls John Lewis
(SG 1959-1963) who later worked for The
Age in Melbourne, and then ABC television in
Melbourne and Canberra.
Steven Lavinder (He 1962-1965) is now
Purchasing Manager at Universal Recycling
System Inc.
Peter Maslen (Sc 1963-1969) is an
international businessman with a global career
spanning large multinational corporations in
education, retail and fast-moving consumer
goods. He is the former Chief Executive
Officer and board member of Singapore-based
Knowledge Universe Education, one of the
world’s largest private education companies.

Prior to joining Knowledge Universe, he was
President of Starbucks Coffee, where he led
Starbucks’ growth globally from its initial
start-up phase to a highly successful and well
established business in over 30 countries. Prior
to joining Starbucks, Peter served as President
of PepsiCo Global Restaurants (now YUM!
Brands) in Europe, with responsibility for the
development and growth of its retail food
businesses throughout Western and Central
Europe and former Soviet block countries. He
began his career in the food industry with Mars
Incorporated, then the world’s largest private
industrial company, culminating as region
director in Asia from where he was recruited to
PepsiCo. Peter is Founder and Chairman of The
HansonMaslen Group in Seattle. He has served
on the boards of several public and private
companies in the US, Japan and other countries,
and is the former Chair of the Global Business
Advisory Board at the University of Washington
Business School and was a member of the
Advisory Board of the Albers School of Business
and Economics at Seattle University. A native of
Australia, he grew up in the outback, studied in
Perth, now lives in Singapore and has a son and
daughter who are both in business.
Didier Murcia (Ha 1976-1980) was listed in the
2014 Australia Day Honours List for receiving
a Member of the Order of Australia (AM). He
received the AM for significant service to the
international community through support
for the provision of medical and educational
resources in Tanzania.
Nigel Pratt (St 1977-1981), after spending six
wonderful years in Tasmania based in Hobart
as the Deputy Clerk of the Legislative Council,
is returning to Perth with his wife Penny, and
three sons, to take up the position of Clerk of
the Legislative Council of Western Australia and
Clerk of the Parliaments.
Ronald Lim (Sc 1980-1983) is President and
Chief Executive Officer of Roamwireless.ca
Inc., a merchant services company based in
Canada. After Guildford, Ron went on to earn
bachelor’s degrees in Economics and German at
the Pennsylvania State University in the USA. He
currently lives in Vancouver, BC, Canada.
Brian Adams (He 1982-1984) is the Chief
Information Officer (CIO) of WorleyParsons and
is responsible for WorleyParsons’ Information
Technology, Systems and Infrastructure. Joining
WorleyParsons in 2006, he held the role of
Chief Financial Officer for the Australia New
Zealand region before moving into his current
