SENIOR SCHOOL
Music Week
Roll out the red carpet! Get your bling happening!
It’s time to roll up, show off and be entertained
by some of the best entertainment that Guildford
Grammar School has to offer!
The Guildford Glamour Awards were a resounding
success and capped off a wonderful week of music
making as part of the 2014 Music Week. This year
the focus was on the students performing, rather
than participating in master-classes from outside
musicians. It is great to see that we are blessed with
such an array and depth of talent that we can easily
fill a week – and perhaps more!
The week started with a Choral Eucharist on
the evening of Sunday 14 September. The choir
medallions were presented before this concert.
Congratulations to all boys on their length of service
to, and achievements within, the Chapel Choir.
On Monday evening our Chamber groups gave
a concert in the David Lawe Davies Centre. This
was also an opportunity for our Year 12 WACE
students to perform one of the pieces from their final
performance program for us. The Chamber program
at the School continues to go from strength to
strength, enabling the students to gain the invaluable
skills of independence and interdependence.
Tuesday evening allowed the Preparatory School
students a chance to shine in the Preparatory
School Gala Concert, showcasing the students
who had received the award of ‘outstanding’ in
the recent Quarter Eisteddfod competition. This
was a wonderful evening and showcased some of
the fantastic individual talent that we have in the
Preparatory School.
On Wednesday the stage was reset, the red carpet
was rolled out and the sparkles were all polished as
the Guildford Glamour Awards lit up the night on
both Thursday and Friday evenings.
This concert season showcased music that featured
on the stage and screen, presented in an awards
show format, and capably hosted by Justin Barwick
(Music Captain 2014) and Kieren Park (Music Vice
Captain 2014). With official photographs, bubbly
(albeit non-alcoholic) on arrival and live, interactive
performances interspersed throughout the event, this
was an evening not to be missed.
The students played through a number of different
awards categories such as ‘Most Outstanding
Achievement in an Animated Picture – Soundtrack’,
and ‘Most Outstanding Soundtrack in a James Bond
Movie’ to name just a few.
Thank you to Mr Paul Cairns, Mrs Lyn Hopkins, Dr
Anita Fuhrmann, Mr David Gething and all of the
music staff for making this week such a success.
Music Concert Season 1 starts on Monday 15 June
2015. See you there!
