SENIOR SCHOOL
Works modelling software and produce a
tactile prototype using CNC machinery.
Engineering students are working across
a number of disciplines, gaining an
understanding of the inter-relationship
between materials and concepts and using
Maths, English and applicable sciences
while learning to overcome design problems
to create practical solutions. Importantly,
students are able to create something
tangible, and often artistic, which leaves
them with a feeling of great pride and
satisfaction.
The Year 11 and 12 Materials and
Engineering students have been designing
and creating wind turbines, coffee tables,
electric vehicles, quad copters and various
metal projects. Design students have been
learning about website design and the
technical syntax needed to create a live
website. The Year 9 classes have been
learning about computer programming
and app development in order to familiarise
themselves with the types of technology that
will be dominant in the future, and as a result
have been creating $38 computers using
Raspberry Pi hardware.
The Design and Technology teaching staff
hail from a variety of backgrounds in the
areas of manufacturing, small business,
graphic design, mechanical and electrical
engineering and information technology.
They enjoy the challenge of working with
students in an environment that is constantly
changing and evolving and their ability
to constantly come up with new ideas
and concepts. The broad curriculum gives
students the prospect of pursuing a diverse
range of career opportunities outside of
school, with a number of students opting
to enter a trade, and others continuing on
to study engineering, design, information
technology and construction.
