Live Bait Drifters Nail Hefty to 32 Pounds
SAN FRANCISCO – Halibut anglers continue to land around a fish per rod on live bait drifting adventures in San Francisco Bay , while salmon trollers continue to find “ hit and miss ” action .
That was the word from Erik Anfinson , captain of the Bass Tub , who has been targeting halibut in San Francisco Bay .
“ Our last half day trip produced 10 halibut for 10 anglers ,” said Anfinson . “ Today my brother , Aaron , and five guys went out for just a couple of hours . They caught two halibut to 15 pounds and 2 stripers to 6 pounds while drifting live bait in the Berkeley Flats .”
“ The salmon action has been really inconsistent ,” said Anfinson . “ One day the boats get limits and the next day nothing . Yesterday the Wacky Jacky , New Rayann , Hog Heaven and other boats all reported limits of salmon . The weather was great yesterday ; today it ’ s blowing .”
HALF MOON BAY
Salmon Move Into Range North Of The Harbor
EL GRANADA - The king salmon have moved into range for the Half Moon Bay fleet , and along with rockfish , lingcod ,
Maksim Tkachuk hit the coast for a little bank fishing in late May and rounded up several fish including a keeper lingcod and a cabezon .

Captain Dennis Baxter of the New Captain Pete was out on Sunday , June 11
with 16 anglers trolling for salmon close to N Buoy , and he put his clients onto 19 salmon to 16 pounds . He said , “ I was up there with the city fleet , and there were also fish at S Buoy , but the better action was at N Buoy . These fish are just a hop , skip , and a jump at 15 miles from our harbor . “
Out of Half Moon Bay Sport Fishing , the Queen of Hearts and Riptide have been focusing on rockfish and lingcod south of the harbor in the newly-opened areas of the Deep Reef with scores of rockfish limits along with quality lings .
The 12 anglers on the latest trip aboard the Queen of Hearts returned with limits of copper , vermilion , brown and other rockfish and 4 legal lingcod ,
reported Sherry Ingles of Half Moon Bay Sportfishing . Four anglers aboard the Que Sera caught 40 rockfish and 14 anglers fishing on the Riptide bagged 140 rockfish and 21 lingcod on recent trips .
Striped bass are hitting along the beaches from Ocean Beach in San Francisco to north of the Pillar Point harbor . Daiwa ’ s SP Minnows . Hair Raisers , Miki Jigs or sand crabs and producing stripers to 14 pounds ..
Second Captain Michael Cabanas of the Huli Cat put his passengers onto lingcod to 11 pounds and vermilions to 5 pounds fishing south of the harbor .
