Meet the FACE of Garland ISD
Choice of School
The district’s Strategic Plan—developed by students, staff, parents and community members—calls for increased
partnerships with families, colleges, businesses and organizations to enhance student success. GISD’s new Family and
Community Engagement (FACE) Department does just that.
You may recognize its members and even some of the programs. But, FACE now provides a one-stop-shop for parent
education, volunteering, etc. The longtime Parents as Teachers Program offers home visits, health screenings, learning
activities and more to families with children five years old and younger. A new monthly workshop series and schoolbased mentoring program also provide parenting advice.

With open enrollment,
GISD families can choose
the school they attend.
Selection periods are
just around the corner.
Secondary Choice of
School runs Jan. 28Feb. 26, and Elementary
Choice is March 17-April
15. Families should make
their selections online via
Skyward Family Access.
New students may enroll
via Skyward during those
dates as well.
